Eight Cards (Blank Inside) With Envelopes. Card Design Is Of A Silver Box Made By Henrik Bertram Møller Of Trondheim, Norway, Ca. 1900. The Box Is In Vesterheim’S Collection.
The Viking Ship Excavations Around The Oslo Fjord In The 1880S And 1890S Revived An Interest In Viking-Era Motifs That Found Expression In Silver As Well As In Other Media. The Inscriptions On This Box Can Be Translated: “The Knight Rescues The Lion From The Dragon. The Lion Thankfully Accompanies The Knight. The Lion Dies Of Sorrow On The Knight’S Grave.” Møller Was Famous For His Use Of Medieval Ornamentation In Silver, And His Firm Still Makes Similar Pieces Today.
